  [FREE]; Incredible edibles.  This event features a variety of tantalizing treats that are sure to impress your tastebuds.   Categories include:  FISH, canned, pickled, smoked, kippered, dried, and strips; JAMS and JELLY; HONEY; BREADS, whole wheat, white, sweet bread, rolls, fry bread; AGUTAK; and DESSERTS, pie, cheesecake and cake.  (It’s been called a Bake-Off for as many years as we can remember!)

Seventh Day Adventist Facility: Sunday, March 16. Drop off your entries between 8am-10:30am.  Judging (for those lucky few) is from 11am -1:30pm.  Sample from the People’s Choice (standing room only), 2pm.

Poker on ice!  Purchase as many hands as you want, but when you go to each "check in", your first card (from each station) must go with your first hand, second card with your second hand, etc.  The highest hand and the lowest hand, at the end of the run, split the pot.

Fee of $5.00 per hand.

[FREE]; Do you bowl with turkeys! 3 age groups for kids and 1 for adults. Contestants roll a turkey and try to hit 10 pins.  The best score from each group wins a free turkey!  The little ones 3 and under get a Cornish hen.  Loads of laughter! Families come and compete against each other for bragging rights!  If the weather is bad, the event is held down the dairy aisle.

WESTERN ALASKA CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SLED RACES

  [FREE]; Don’t miss the dog mushers and their championship sled dogs at the ceremonial start of the Western Alaska Championship Sled Dog Races at the Lily Pond.  Bring a camera!   

Friday, March 14, 12:00 Noon, ceremonial start; Day 1.

Saturday, March 15, 12:00 Noon, Day 2.

Sunday, March 16, 1:00pm, Final Heat.

For Mushers: The Western is an open class sprint race run in 3 day heats with a guaranteed purse of at least $20,000.  Run times are noon on March 14th and 15th and 1:00 on the 16th.  Trail will be between 15 and 20 miles (more information on trail to be posted later).  Cash prizes will be given out at the Beaver Round-up Awards Ceremony on the evening of the 16th.   Interested mushers should contact Kyle Belleque at 842-5374.  Check back for race rules and purse breakdown.

For Mushing Fans: The Western has been the backbone of Beaver Round-up since the beginning.  For 50 years Bristol Bay mushers have gathered in Dillingham each spring pitting the best against the best.  The race begins on the Lilly Pond near downtown Dillingham.  Mushers and their teams can also be watched “on the move” from Waskey Road.  Most fans watch the mushers leave the starting chute, drive to Waskey Road and then return to the Lilly Pond to watch the finishers.  Join us for the 50th running of the Western Alaska Championship Sled Dog Race!
