Fifty years. If you’ve reached or passed that milestone, then you probably remember Blackjack gum, wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water, candy cigarettes, peashooters, S&H Green Stamps, roller skate keys, and butch wax. If you lived where there was television, you remember Howdy Doody and Groucho Marx and Art Linkletter and a guy who made the sign of a Z. If you lived in a city, you remember newsreels before the movie, coffee shops with juke boxes, and change back from your dollar after you bought a hamburger, small fries, and a large milkshake. Party lines did not refer to parties or picking up girls, and cell phones only occurred in jails. You had 45’s, hi-fi instead of wi-fi, you listened to Elvis croon “Blue Suede Shoes” on the radio, and you watched the Beatles – all of whom you can name – on the Ed Sullivan Show. You danced the jitterbug, the swim, the stroll, the bunny hop.
So you’re . . . old. Maybe not one foot in the grave old, but old enough to know better – and not care. Old enough to appreciate when someone else reaches a half century.
Well, Beaver Roundup is that age, so it’s time to help the ole’ girl celebrate. So hop in your Studebaker or hop on your Western Flyer, and come on down. There will be food, dancing, games, smowmobile races, Deal or no Deal, Dilly Capers, Little Miss Beaver Round-Up, the Air Force Band and much more.
SO COME JOIN US IN CELEBRATING OUR 50TH BEAVER ROUND-UP FESTIVAL!
MYSTERY BEAVER CLUES
1. We have many wonderful volunteers in our community who show up when you need help. Next time you see the ambulance drive by, or you see one of our EMT's out and about, be thankful that we have these wonderful people in our community. Take it from someone who knows, they are always there to help and remember, safety first. Wear your helmet, drive sober, have a safe and wonderful Beaver Round up! Maybe our volunteers can enjoy a little break.
2. If you stand on the corner of 2nd Ave West and E street. Go to Deans or the courthouse and you'll be getting colder.
